Intercountry Lecturing Program

Purpose:

For the Fulbright Scholar: The Fulbright Intercountry Lecturing Program provides U.S. scholars in Europe with opportunities to enrich their professional and cultural experience outside their country of assignment.

For European educational institutions: It gives educational institutions an opportunity to request a visit from a Fulbright Scholar based in another country.

Participating Countries:

22 bi-national European Fulbright commissions participate in the program: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.  Please note that grant openings may vary from country to country. The Finnish Fulbright Center maintains an updated list of the current US Fulbrighters in these countries, which can be accessed here (for U.S. Fulbright scholars based in European countries other than those listed above,  please contact the Norwegian commission at fulbright@fulbright.no about possibilities)

Benefits/Costshare

• The Fulbright commission in the country that has extended the invitation to the scholar covers travel costs for the scholar.
• The scholar keeps Fulbright insurance coverage for the duration of the stay.
• The institution that is hosting the scholar’s visit is asked to cover living costs/housing for the duration of the stay.

Procedures:

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that the following applies to Norwegian institutions that are interested in inviting Fulbright grantees based in other European countries. Institutions in participating countries outside of Norway should contact their own national Fulbright commission to find out how to apply for an Intercountry Lecturer.

1. Potential Norwegian host institutions identify who they would like to invite by looking at the list of scholars. This list is updated several times throughout the year.
2. The host institution then fills out Part 1 of this form, before submitting the form to the U.S.-Norway Fulbright Foundation.
3. Fulbright Norway is responsible for forwarding the invitation to its counterpart Fulbright commission in the country in which the scholar is based .
4. If authorized by the Fulbright commission in that country, the grantee, under the direction of the US-Norway Fulbright Foundation, will be responsible for making his or her own travel arrangements. Travel should not be booked before authorization has been given by the US-Norway Fulbright Foundation.
5. The Fulbright Scholar is required to submit a short narrative report of the grant experience before the travel expenses are reimbursed.
