English Teaching Assistants

The ETA program aims to strengthen English language instruction and language skills in Norwegian high schools and universities. Up to four (4) Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) awards to be offered. More information about the program can be found here.

Language:  Applicants should be native-level speakers of English.  No knowledge of Norwegian is required.

Grant duration/period:  10 months, mid-August – mid-June. The grant period begins with the beginning of the school year at the host institution.  Grantees are expected to attend a two-day orientation meeting in Oslo in late August/early September.

Candidate profile:  Applications are welcome from candidates at all degree levels, from all fields of study. However, preference will be given to applicants in English language and American studies, social sciences, humanities, and those who plan to pursue a career in education. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in teaching and be able to work effectively as part of a team.

Affiliation:  The grantee will be assigned to a Norwegian secondary school and a local university or solely to a local university. Each host institution will tailor the assistantship to its English language teaching needs and to the grantee’s background, academic interests and abilities. Teaching assistant activities may include: 1) serving as a resource person in conversation groups; 2) providing small group tutorials; 3) assisting students with written English and, 4) giving talks related to American studies in English classes or school/civic organizations. Applicants should submit descriptions of their study and/or career interests.
