Kathrina is an Associate Professor of Education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She previously worked with students in grades P-12 as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, and teacher for multilingual learners in international, private, and public schools, as well as schools serving tribal communities and military families.
Kathrina grew up in a small, rural Minnesota community. Her research and work pivot around rural education and book access, equitable and enrichment-focused literacy instruction, and supporting multilingual learners. Kathrina strives to create a culturally responsive learning environment where all students are seen, heard, valued, respected, and welcome; learning is student-centered with emphasis placed on collaboration, communication, and creativity. Her textbook, Reframing Literacy Instruction for Educational Professionals, will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2026.
As a Fulbright Rover, Kathrina is humbled by and grateful for the opportunity to learn from and connect with students and teachers in Norway. She is also eager to delve into her Norwegian heritage. When time allows, Kathrina hopes to visit locations from which her great-great grandparents emigrated and work on her Norwegian speaking and baking skills.
