Fulbright er et program som ble startet som et fredsbevarende inititativ og like viktig som studier og forskning er muligheten til å lære nye kulturer å kjenne. Som mottaker av et Fulbright-stipend er det derfor mange fordeler og tilbud utover det rent økonomiske. For å styrke samhold på tvers av kulturer får man mulighet til å være med på ulike aktiviteter i løpet av perioden man er i USA. Nedenfor kan du lese mer om tilbudene.
Informasjon for Fulbright studenter/Fulbright Visiting Students (inkluderer PhD stipendiater):
- Fulbright Foreign Student Program nettsiden. Se spesielt på informasjonen under “Current Fulbrighters” – du må lage deg brukernavn og passord. Denne siden inneholder mye praktisk informasjon som kan være greit å gå gjennom før du reiser.
- Fulbright Gateway og Enrichment seminarer. Begge seminarer er gratis å delta på (kost/losji blir dekket av Institute of International Education; kontoret som administrerer Fulbright-programmet i USA).
Gateway er introduksjonsopphold for Fulbrightere fra hele verden som skal starte i USA det samme akademiske år som deg.
Fulbright Gateway orientations, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) as part of its flagship Fulbright Program, are a benefit made available to first-year Fulbrighters upon their arrival in the United States. Gateway orientations provide an overview of the Fulbright Program, its goals, student responsibilities and specifics of U.S. academic and cultural life. Gateway orientations also help students develop a sense of the Fulbright identity and provide a global network of fellow Fulbrighters from over 155 countries who will study at colleges/universities across the United States. Fulbright Enrichment seminars er seminarer man kan delta på underveis i oppholdet. Tilbudet går ut til alle Fulbrightere i løpet av det første året de tilbringer i USA. Begrenset antall plasser.
The goal of the seminars is to provide a space for Fulbrighters to come together and share their own cultures while learning together about an aspect of U.S. history and culture and its relation to an American city. Fulbrighters will have the opportunity to connect with fellow grantees, American community members, and learn about a U.S. city and its history and culture. You are strongly encouraged to visit the enrichment program website for additional information and to read about past scholar activities on our Fubright Scholar Blog.” (…) Scholars whose dates align with the enrichment seminar schedule will receive an invitation to apply to attend one of several visiting scholar seminars scheduled throughout the academic year. “ - Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF): “The Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF) provides funding for U.S. institutions to host Fulbright Visiting Scholars, already in the United States, for short-term speaking engagements. The OLF travel award is designed to enrich U.S. institutions through lectures that will promote discussion on academic disciplines and cultural understanding.“
