Applications are invited for the position of Regional Diversity Coordinator for Fulbright Programs in countries throughout Europe and Eurasia. Based at a Fulbright Commission in one of the European countries (for a list of Commissions, visit: https://eca.state.gov/fulbright/about-fulbright/funding-and-administration/fulbright-commissions), the Coordinator will develop, lead, implement, and evaluate innovative initiatives promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). The position is funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, which also sets priorities for the work of the Coordinator.
One of three such regionally-focused positions funded by ECA, the Coordinator will collaborate closely with ECA, Fulbright Commissions in the region, and other regional program stakeholders to design innovative programming that offers services, support, and advocacy for participants from underrepresented groups, including but not limited to: participants of color; LGBTQIA+ individuals; first generation college students; ethnically and racially diverse individuals; those from marginalized socio-economic communities; individuals with physical, emotional, and/or cognitive disabilities; and late-career applicants.
● Develop and maintain relationships across the regional Fulbright community to identify DEIA issues, develop and propose solutions
● Serve as a resource on diversity recruitment and outreach for potential Fulbright candidates from Europe and Eurasia
● Create, implement, and assess innovative Fulbright in-country orientations and enrichment programming for U.S. Fulbright participants
● Act as a resource for individual U.S. participants and provide support to Commission and Embassy officers work with individual Fulbright program participants
● Lead and facilitate workshops for commission staff/board members and for Fulbright participants in Commission and Post (U.S. embassy) countries
● Establish and monitor metrics to evaluate DEIA efforts
● Ability to engage in routine travel throughout the region
Minimum Competency Required:
● Bachelor’s degree
● Five (5) years of experience in higher education and/or international exchange program administration
● Fluency in English
● Knowledge of European culture and history
● Understanding of U.S. college/university culture and U.S. Study Abroad
● Understanding and experience facilitating learning in varied contexts on topics such as cross-cultural adaptation, personal identity, and topics related to transitioning to new and diverse cultural settings
● Proven leadership skills
● Highly developed oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups of varying social and cultural backgrounds
● Ability to work varied hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
● Master’s degree in a relevant field
● Experience working with and advocating for, and an extensive knowledge of the needs of, diverse populations, including international students and scholars
● Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural communications
● Demonstrated knowledge of multicultural leadership development
● Crisis management experience and the ability to serve in an on-call capacity
● Experience advising and supporting students and scholars, individually and in groups
● Experience living abroad
● Experience training others
A one-year renewable contract in accordance with host country local laws and regulations will be offered to the successful candidate. Benefits include health insurance and paid time off. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
